Morgan Freeman to tea party: ‘Don’t tear the country apart’

In an interview with Marlow Stern at the Daily Beast, actor Morgan Freeman slams the tea party and all of the ‘strange people’ associated with the movement.

Commenting on the ‘craziness’ of the tea party — Stern having brought up the House’s effort to defund Obamacare which led recently to a temporary shutdown of ‘non-essential’ government — Freeman says:

“The lengths that people will go to to show their prejudices! You see some of these signs that say, “TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK!” What the f— is that? Whose country are you talking about?”

Freeman says that tea partiers are “being pushed to the side” because they “don’t have the power [they] think [they] have in this country.”

The movement is tearing the country apart, says the actor:

“Obama was legitimately elected president. If you don’t like that, fine, either move out, or make your point and get yourself elected, but don’t tear the country apart! That’s not going to get you anywhere. I think the Republicans have pretty much destroyed themselves by allowing themselves to be controlled by a small contingent of people with a lot of money.”

Freeman blames the Koch Brothers, Rush Limbaugh, and “all those strange people” in conservative-leaning media.
